アメリカで教師をしているダイアン＝ゴア先生という友人がいます。彼女は、授業で「画像を利用した文化比較」という授業を担当なさっているとのことですが、日米の文化の違いを英語で交換してみないかと持ちかけてきました。私はそれに同意し、英語を教えている中学１年生130人あまりの生徒に日本の文化のいろいろなテーマを探し出させ、日本語で説明させてみました。この生徒たちは平成11年４月に英語を習い始めたばかりだったので、「これ和英！」というソフトを使って英訳してみました。当時、私のALT（英語指導助手）であり、日本語にかなり精通しているマシュー先生(Mr.Matthew VanWeezel)も大いに翻訳を手伝ってくださり、私の英文もチェックしてくれました。心から感謝しています。
One of my American friends, Ms.Dyane Gore, who teaches in the
U.S., asked me if I wanted to exchange topics on cultural aspects
of our countries in English. I said OK, and I had my 130+ students
find themes concerning Japanese culture and write about them.
Here are themes my students found and wrote in Japanese in their
English classes. As my students only began learning English in
April, 1999, I translated my students' works into English using
a Japanese-English translation software named 'Kore-wa Ei.' My
present ALT, assistant language teacher Mr.Matthew van Weezel
helped me translate and also check my translation. I deeply appreciate
it. Since there are many essays, it will probobly take a long
time to upload all of them.
それぞれのテーマには「B2F」などという記号がついています。AからDとは、それぞれのグループが所属する学級、1から6は文章を書いた時点での班の番号を表します。それぞれMは男子生徒、Fは女子生徒のグループであることを表します。
Each theme has a symbol, like 'B2F.' A from D mean the classroom
in which each group belongs to, 1 from 6 mean the group name at
the time my students wrote them, M means male students, and F
means female students respectively.
